Courage Starts With Showing Up and Letting Ourselves Be Seen

On August 6, 2019, in the flash of a moment, I became a mom of a child with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Just before midnight in a small, sterile room at Toronto’s SickKids Hospital we received the news that changed our lives forever. I was terrified of what lay ahead, of leaving the life we knew behind, but I refused to let fear shut me down – I chose COURAGE!

‘Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen’ ~ Brene Brown

I am no longer just a mom of a child with T1D. I am a proud mom of a warrior with T1D. I am a diabetes advocate, and I wear my badge of honour with pride to drive awareness and build community. If the sight of me running after my son with a juice box in hand to treat his low blood sugar offered a hint of hope to any other person watching the beautiful sunset at this beach yesterday, then my heart is full.

It’s the little things that can drive big impact. Find the courage to let yourself be seen💙
