The Top Three Lessons I've Learned

Last year I completed an Entrepreneurial Management course to kickstart my dream of creating an Inspired clothing brand to help women thrive in the face of adversity. I built a robust business plan and then started overthinking every aspect of the plan. A year later, and about a month away from launching my dream into the world, I’m reflecting on the top three lessons I have learned…

☑ Simple is harder than complex

I started with a simple vision that quickly became a maze of complex strategies and goals. This led to delays in production, website uncertainty, and profound procrastination. It wasn’t until I spent a day reconnecting with my original vision, and the inspiration behind the brand, that I was able to remove the complexity and restore the simplicity. It felt like a weight had been lifted and I was able to propel forward with significant momentum.

☑ Fear of failure can bring progress to a halt

Fear can be debilitating. Will my idea inspire others? Will the brand drive impact as part of our Giving Back strategy? Will anyone want to buy a Sweet LemonAID shirt? This dream has been living in the back of my mind for years, so my only option was to commit to doing the work needed to reframe my fears, adopt a beginner’s mindset, and push forward.

☑ Consistency beats perfection

I'm a perfectionist to a fault. Coupled with a fear of failure, unnecessary complexity, and a tendency to overthink, you have a recipe for paralysis. Embracing a journey of consistency has been a game changer. Each day I set small achievable goals that are now starting to build the foundation for results. Results that I can’t wait to share with the world this fall!
